{almost}every day in may

It is a bit hard to post every day when multiple beach vacations fall in said month.
But I assure you I am not complaining...
Back soon. Love to all.

Thoughts I am considering

Be authentic.
Know your worth.
Be honest. To yourself. To others. To God.
Dream bigger.
Live intentionally.
Listen to more salsa music.
Believe that He will do what He said He will.

I haven't jumped ship

I have just been really busy with some other things.

This is the part where I resist the urge to say "so much for Everyday in May."
At least I drew some every day. ;)

Running with scissors

I have been really busy lately...but I did have time to sneak in a quick sketch
while I was in traffic on 485.
Yes, I was driving. :)

No, I am not ashamed.

At least I wasn't texting...

Fresh

I'm just fresh from a little vacation...it was so wonderful and
I am still basking in the glow while I catch up on what I missed. In the meantime, enjoy these photos taken not so recently...

Lamp Light

I really like this particular pen I used. I like that it almost scratches the surface of the paper. I am very preoccupied with line on paper, and I have realized that part of that is the feel of the pen point as it draws the lines. It's the little things :)

{plant} life

One of my favorite things to draw is plant life...
I was trying to do this drawing as quickly and as accurately as I could.

I love this

because he perfectly enunciates what I am striving for in my sketchbooks/journals.
I used to be very linear thinking with regard to my journals and sketchbooks being separate. No writing personal stuff in my sketchbook, etc. That is being broken off, and my linear thinking is evolving....whoo hoo to that I say!
Enjoy!

En Plein Air

Another sketch from downtown this weekend. I have wanted to draw this building for a long time.

A special shoutout to my ladies from the Artist's Way group. They are precious in my life right now and I appreciate them allowing me plenty of space on the "road" :)

This weekend

I spent some time downtown drawing. I have this secret desire to be really good at drawing architecture. How else to get there but to practice, right?

Part of that practice needs to be perspective drawing, I realized. I understand perfectly the concept and the abstraction of perspective drawing...but the real life application needs some practice.

I found these trees (again with the trees!) and their a l i g n m e n t rather fascinating.
I also spent some time in the new museum of modern art.
I think I can say with certainty that I am not a fan of modern art :)

Who's Yo Daddy?

Notice anything different with the set up of the blog?
I played around (read: experimented) with the html (gasp) in an attempt to get bigger pictures. For the sake of my viewing public, I have left THIS picture normal size :)
Some of the others aren't very good quality, which is a scanning issue (again with the scanner). But still....I achieved what I wanted in widening the outer wrapper and the main wrapper and the blah blah blah.
So.
Who's Yo Daddy?
I want to know.

*stay tuned for even bigger and badder improvements. Like the comment section moving back where it belongs instead of sitting there at the top like I am attention starved.

I want to live in a house like this:

*all pictures are from the May Anthropologie awesomeness, I mean catalog :)

Oh trees...how I love thee

I was so proud of this tree in my sketchbook because it is so cleverly drawn on the edge of the page. Well. As I am apt to do, I went back and added some marker to the drawing on the previous page, thereby causing this big awkward blob to appear right in the middle of my cleverly planned composition. Sadness. Must draw that again on another page. If I were really clever I would have Photoshopped that sucker right on out. I believe we can chalk that up to laziness.

Least you think I was joking

about my obsession with these...here is another of the abstract-tree-negative-space drawings.
Every morning I have my coffee on the balcony accompanied by the sweet sound of birds in the trees and the sweet smell of gasoline from the Hispanic landscapers who incessantly trim, cut, and leaf blow outside my apartment.
There is this one section of the tree that stares at me (I kid you not) everyday, begging me to draw it. This morning it's begging was so loud I couldn't concentrate on anything else.
Thus...here we have another in the series...
Enjoy!

Loveable

lov·a·ble
of such a nature as to attract love; deserving love; amiable; endearing.

I am currently learning what it means to have a posture of receiving. Especially love. Especially love from the Father.

The beautiful contours of the negative space

in trees. I love it. I could draw it all day...
I have an addiction to trees....

*as an aside...I am not happy with my scanner. It makes the moleskine pages look like a child's coloring book. This is a project for the next days...

Every Day in May

This is my goal...to work in my sketchbook and also post every day in May...we will see how it works :)
